This story, and the other one you just commented on is part of the Paladin 'verse, which has a multitude of stories, from case!fic (the Privilege series) to the extremely pornish (Bolero) to H/C (Questions of Position and Use of Authority) as well as lots of OT3 romance and relationship fics. The running theme throughout is that while Peter is clearly the "Paladin" - the prime mover/focus - Neal is never, ever a helpless woobie. He may have a hard time dealing, but he's never just flailing around, waiting (like a damsel in distress) for Peter or Elizabeth to pick him up, dust him off and make things right.
