White Collar - My Crack

It all started out innocently enough.  White Collar came to my attention because of a recommendation on Hulu in late September about a new show on USA - I guess because I subscribed to Burn Notice.  I missed the first episode when it aired on cable, but caught it the next day on Hulu - and immediately fell in love.  Not just with the gorgeous man candy (more Matt than Tim at first), but with the intelligence and sparkling dialogue.  I hadn't seen anything that good - that pleasing since - hell, I can't remember.  With the exception of Burn Notice - I was pretty much done with first run scripted TV, having fallen into the ghetto of Project Runway/Top Chef and the other Bravo reality competitions.

The last 15 minutes of the Pilot were awesome goodness - the extra hot fudge at the bottom of the sundae.  I loved-loved-loved the use of criminal procedure/Fourth Amendment law - it was intelligent, funny and completely unexpected.  And yes, the previous scene with the shirtless, silk pajama bottom clad Matt Bomer was completely gratuitous but just yummmm (I'm still waiting for a shirtless Tim DeKay scene).  Having little patience with commecials (or at least long commercial breaks), I watched the first 4 or 5 episodes on Hulu, and decided that I really couldn't stand watching yet another idiotic Microsoft/Windows 7 promotional (one episode had the same 60 second dumbass commercial 5 times), so I splurged and bought the Season Pass on iTunes.

Then came the last 90 seconds of the mid-season closer, and I was left with a breathless WHAT THE FUCK JUST HAPPENED.  AND HOW LONG AM I GOING TO HAVE TO WAIT FOR A RESOLUTION?

But it wasn't until I read this post in Friskbiskit (Jessica Freely's wonderful M/M fic oriented blog) that I really understood what I was loving about White Collar.  And so, WC fanfic has become my new crack - and of course, the slashier the better.  It's also becoming a bit of a problem, since I have other things I need to do besides troll the Intertubes for fresh fic, dreaming up plot bunnies, and yumming out on my God in a Bad Suit.

I'm not sure I'm cut out for writing fic...I do write and write well (if I may say so myself), but one of the things that makes my writing good is an intensive and obsessive attention to research and detail - and I just do not know if I can turn that off enough to write with the dramatic intensity I would want.  But you see, I have these plot bunnies coupling in my head - they don't let me sleep - so I may just have to try.
