Friday Afternoon Rambles - What The Hell's Going On With Me

Good day my friends...a recent check on my journal reveals that it's been over a month since I used my Rambling Rambles of Randomness tag. And that is a bit of a shame, because I like taking you with me on these perambulations through my brain.

1 - The Month of May. Masturbation happened for just half of it. When I wrote my "I quit" post in the middle of the month, I was flailing around in self-pity, and I really, really appreciate everyone taking the time to tell me that I'm not a failure. I know I didn't respond to anyone, mostly because my behaviour was a trifle embarrassing. I was just so overwhelmed and had so much hope for another successful round of jerk-off fic, that I felt like I was letting myself down.

That was, in retrospect, not the case. It was the best thing I could have done for my writing. Which brings me to...

2 - The State of the Writing. I still owe my two Sandy fics to my two very generous friends, who are just as patient as they are generous. I'm getting there. My WC Pairings Fic is a bit of a struggle - 5k on a story that is stalled, because I think it's a project that needs at least 50k and I feel overwhelmed by that. And speaking of long fics...

I had planned on using a WIP that was already at 8k as my Big Bang story, but then I got so badly bunnied that everything else has been pushed aside for this new story. It's already at 13K and will probably be close to 24k when done. Now, only if there were artists signed up for this round of the Big Bang, I'd be a whole lot happier.

Regarding the back-list...

I've finally decided to start putting the Paladin 'Verse up on AO3. That's been an interesting exercise. First, taking a good, hard look at some of my earliest writing. Some if it's pretty damn terrible. And most, surprisingly not. But that's not why I'm making a note of that here. When I first started posting fic, my tagging was - how shall I say - very disordered. Most of the early stories don't sport any really useful tags, and a lot of the tags that are there are out of date or don't reflect my current format. Also, because I'm actually posting and not importing, the story text needed to be cleaned up. I have all of the original text files for these stories, but they aren't final (where I've made corrections in the posted stories, particularly) and for the earliest ones, I was posting in Rich Text, not HTML, and that's not all that good for AO3, I've found.

So, it's been a fun exercise in re-reading the older stuff, seeing how my writing has and has not matured, discovering old friends, getting embarrassed by myself. One of the great things is seeing how many of the people who originally commented are still active in the fandom. And seeing one name in particular makes me sad, [livejournal.com profile] ursula4x who was such a driving force in the early days of the fandom.

3 - Health. This is still going well. Found a great new doctor, he's put me on a new anti-diabetic medication. While my average numbers are a little higher than I'd like, they are still within normal range and the added benefit is that (1) I don't keep going into hypoglycemia because the meds don't scale off and (2) I don't have the terrible gastric issues I was suffering from. And on the really plus side, I've dropped five pants sizes since January. I weigh less now than I have at any point in the last 20 years.

4 - Family. My sister was finally supposed to come in for a visit this weekend. (It's weird, she hasn't lived with me for over 30 years, but I still have the urge to say "come home for a visit".) We were just going to hang out and she was going to help me get some Ikea display cabinets home and upstairs. But those plans have been scuttled. Instead, I'm going to see her.

Sister is a dentist. My dentist. Which isn't terribly practical, since she lives in New England. Except I have excellent teeth and gums.

What's that got to do with anything? Well, last night, I was having dinner and bit into something a little hard. I took it out of my mouth, thinking it was a piece of bone from my supposedly boneless steak. It wasn't. It was a piece of a molar. A filling. It doesn't hurt, not one bit, but the area's rough and my tongue keeps worrying at it.

So, I'm heading up there. It's going to be a nice trip - I've got ferry reservations and the drive out to the ferry is really nice (through wine and farm country). I'll get to sister's around 10ish and she'll fix my tooth tomorrow. Probably get a cleaning done, too - since I am due.

5 - White Collar. Had a few fandom friends over at House Wonderful for the holiday weekend, and on one of those days, we made it into Brooklyn to see if we could see any filming. It was a miserable and rainy day and everyone was inside. Except for Tiffani, who is as kind as she is beautiful. She took us back to her trailer and then posed for pictures, even though it was raining and she was all made up (we were under an umbrella, at least). No sign of Tim or Matt. But meeting Tiffani was almost worth the 3+ hour drive back home.

Other interesting thing. We walked past the wardrobe trailer and the door was open and the interior lit. The contents was most remarkable.

Yes, those are bras hanging there. A lot of bras. Weird.

And because you've made it all the way through the ramble, how about a picture of Matt Bomer's ass.
