All my fic, in a nice and tidy list, organized by 'verse and series and type.

If you're just looking for Gen stories...stop.

You aren't going to find a lot of them here. I ‘ship Peter/Neal, Peter/Elizabeth, and Peter/Elizabeth/Neal. Not all of my stories are explicit, and in fact, most of them aren’t, but you are going to find a Peter/Neal, or more likely, Peter/Elizabeth/Neal relationship at the core of the story.

Also - I hope you like angst and emotional hurt/comfort - because that’s what I seem to write most often. Occasionally, you’ll find some casefic and some humor and crack, and rarely, fluff.

You should also be an adult, and capable of understanding adult themes and issues.

These are fanworks, make for my own enjoyment and to share with others. I don't have any ownership interests in White Collar or its characters.

Danger’verse

This is a series that started out as a single ficlet, and I had my arm twisted ever so gently into making it an on-going series. It’s basically a shaggy dog story – wandering in and out of canon, in and out of the Paladin ‘verse at will. There are almost 2 years worth of prompts on the WC100 comm, and I may try to keep this going for the duration. The Danger’verse series is also published as a single entry with multiple chapters on AO3.

In my recent story, I Have Borne The Burden of Myself, Peter calls Neal into the office on a Sunday to go over an art fraud case. I probably should have mentioned it in the author notes, but I based the story on a real, on-going investigation that I first read about almost two years ago.

But here we go - 15 down, one left after this.

Not been feeling too hot. Actually took off from work yesterday - I needed the sleep. It helped, but not with everything. I think I need to start the prilosec again. My stomach and esophogus are not happy.

Here are a few highlights from the rest of my life, recently.

Masterlist

Went to update my Masterlist on LJ and was left with a WTF? I've known that I've been close to the upper limit on post size for a while, but apparently when they put in the new code, they took away the resource that tells you how long your post is and how much needs to be trimmed. Thank you again LJ, you soul-sucking SOB.

Which justifies my next announcement/decision. I am not going to maintain two masterlists - one with links to LJ and one with links to DW. It'a all going to be the posting links on DW from now forward. And I will slowly replace the LJ links with the DW links when I have time.

I am tempted to simply delete the contents in the LJ post and just put a pointer to the DW post. Or maybe simply replace the cut tags in the LJ post with links to the DW post. Does anyone have any suggestions?

The Bracelet

I didn't feel up to writing yesterday, so when I finally got out of bed, I watched a few episodes of Granada Sherlock Holmes on Netflix (The Empty Room, The Dancing Men and The Blue Carbuncle). And I worked on the bracelet.

Click for new picture )

I've made significant progress since I took the scan - it's about double the size. I'm now on yellow and soon to start green (the highlight colors in the center of each flower bead).

Fic

I have a bit of a problem, I don't know what I want to write!

There are two WIPs, both are A/Us.

The first one is for my A/U bingo square - Veterinarians. I've got about 10k in on this one - all from before I left for vacation. I love the story, know where it's going, but I can't seem to settle back into writing any of it.

The second is a de-aged Neal fic that is so angsty, even the thought of it makes me depressed. If I were to write it, I'd need to write it with two endings. There's only about 2500 words written, and I wouldn't feel to bad abandoning it. But since I'm committed to writing a de-aged and/or kid fic by the end of March, I'll need a new prompt or two (hint hint).

Long Weekend Ahead

I'm off on Monday, and don't have anything to do this weekend. Do you know how good that feels? No open house - so I can sleep late, get some laundry done and COOK! I may haul back in my crockpot (it's been in storage since the summer) and make some chile or short ribs or something. Or maybe the thing I used to do with chicken, whole grain mustard and 16 other spices served on top of polenta. Hmmm, yummmm.

And then there is THIS: Private Romeo, a retelling of Shakespeare's tragedy set in a military academy. The trailer - OMG - the trailer. DIES FROM THE TRAGEDY - DIES FROM THE HOTNESS.

Clicky for trailer )

I am planning on going into NYC on Monday, so I may just see it, except that it's only playing on 12th Street at really, really awkward hours. GRUMBLE.

Not much else going on...looking forward to next week's White Collar. Enjoying the longer days (it's so damn nice to drive home when there's still a little daylight) and wishing I was feeling a bit more peppy.

Oh, well. Can't have everything.

And just because you're so wonderful to wade through this, a bonus Tatt DeBomer:

Our boys, having a cup of coffee )

This one: Peter/Neal, pre-slash/UST, eating soup at the office, snow flurries just sent me into orbit. Step the First:

Christine Gregoire, the two-term (by the skin of her teeth) governor of Washington State has signed a bill into law making same-sex marriage legal. This makes Washington the seventh state to grant full and equal rights to all persons. The law goes into effect on June 7th. Washington state has had domestic partnership laws since 2007, and in 2009 passed an "everything but marriage" expansion of that law, which was ultimately upheld by voters after a referendum challenge.

Opponents said they would file a ballot challenge after Gregoire signed the measure that would require voters in November to either uphold or overturn the law. If the referendum gets enough signatures by June 6 the law is put on hold pending the outcome of a November vote.

Source: New York Times, Washington Governor Signs Gay Marriage Bill 2/13/2012

Step the Second:

The New Jersey State Senate voted on Monday to legalize same-sex marriage, a significant shift in support from two years ago, when a similar measure failed. The legislation faces a vote on Thursday in the State Assembly, but even if that chamber passes the measure, as expected, Gov. Chris Christie, who favors holding a referendum on the issue, has said he will veto it.

“The margin brought the notion of an override out of fantasyland,” said Steven Goldstein, chairman of Garden State Equality, a gay rights group. “Before today, I would have said the chances of an override were one in a million. Now I’d say it’s about one in two.”

Overriding the anticipated veto would require the approval of two-thirds of both houses, which in the Senate translates to 27 votes. But Democrats, who control the Legislature and have made the bill their top priority this year, argue that they have nearly two years — until the session ends on Jan. 14, 2014 — to muster just three more votes than they won on Monday.

Source: New York Times, New Jersey Senate Votes to Legalize Same-Sex Marriage, 2/13/2012.

Step the Third:

Matt Bomer has, in one beautiful and classy moment, fully acknowledged his relationship with Simon Halls and their three children. Even though there has been some debate as to whether this constitutes a "coming out" moment, it is, for the the record, the first time Matt has publicly acknowledged a committed relationship with his partner. 'Nuff said.

A sun dog or sundog, scientific name parhelion (plural parhelia) from Greek παρήλιον (parēlion), meaning "beside the sun" (also called a mock sun or a phantom sun), is an atmospheric phenomenon that creates bright spots of light in the sky, often on a luminous ring or halo on either side of the sun.

Sundogs may appear as a colored patch of light to the left or right of the sun, 22° distant and at the same distance above the horizon as the sun, and in ice halos. They can be seen anywhere in the world during any season, but they are not always obvious or bright. Sundogs are best seen and are most conspicuous when the sun is low.

Wikipedia

Driving to work this morning, I was entranced by a sun dog. It wasn't particularly strong and for that matter, I couldn't see it without either looking at it through the polarized portion of my windshield or my sunglasses. But it was mesmerizing - this patch of rainbow sky - a parenthesis to the sun. It lacked it's partner, though - at least as I could see.

I've taken to driving the scenic route to the office - not because it's scenic (that's just a bonus) but because it takes less time. The expressway is the direct route, a straight line for 13 miles or so, and it rarely gets backed up (my office is south and east, the opposite direction of most commuter traffic). But when I have to get off the highway, the traffic has become insane. Just before I get to my office, I have to deal with a huge and busy huge intersection where the north-south and east-west turning lanes can't go simultaneously. If I miss the light, it's almost three minutes before I can try again. Once school is in session, it takes an average of nine minutes to make that turn.

By taking the scenic route, it's 3 miles longer, but about 8 minutes shorter most mornings. And today, as an extra special bonus, I got the sun dog. The sky was particularly beautiful, filled with a patchwork of high cirrus clouds, gilded by the rising sun. I'm not a particularly good morning person (aesthetically, I prefer sunset to sunrise), but this was a good one. Hopefully a harbinger of the day to come.

You know that the graphics department for White Collar really likes to mess with our heads. Or make stupid mistakes.

In Season One, they couldn't spell the lead character's name. In Free Fall, when Neal's pasting together the reports that Fowler shredded and Mozzie reclaimed, we can clearly see that he's "Neal Caffery," not "Neal Caffrey."

The Harvard diploma in Peter's office says that he graduated in 1997, not 1987.

In Season Two, we get a glimpse of the yacht club log book during Burke's Seven. All of the dates are in 2009, even though elsewhere in the season, it's been clearly established that the storyline takes place in 2010 (Need to Know).

And of course, the utterly ridiculous biography of Neal in Copycat Caffrey.

There's also the mysterious paperwork for Matthew Keller that we can see in Payback - which I suspect repurposed the paperwork from Garrett Fowler earlier in the season.

We've also seen screenshots of Neal's EMU entry. He has no birthdate or social security number, but it does state that he was born in New York.

I know I should stop doing this - capping the "paperwork" shots, but I can't help myself. There are way too many easter eggs to find.

And the one from Neighborhood Watch is a doozy.

Cut for spoilers )

The Federal Appeals Court for California has ruled that the gay marriage ban is unconstitutional.

The ruling states:

"Although the Constitution permits communities to enact most laws they believe to be desirable, it requires that there be at least a legitimate reason for the passage of a law that treats different classes of people differently. There was no such reason that Proposition 8 could have been enacted."

"Whether under the Constitution same-sex couples may ever be denied the right to marry, a right that has long been enjoyed by opposite-sex couples, is an important and highly controversial question," the court said. "We need not and do not answer the broader question in this case."

Furthermore, it has ruled that the lower court decision, which was challenged because the Chief U.S. Judge Vaughn Walker (now retired) disclosed that he was gay and in a long-term relation, was properly made, without bias. It was the first instance of an American jurist's sexual orientation being cited as grounds for overturning a court decision.

The ruling; however, does not mean that same-sex marriages can resume in California. The court said gay marriages cannot resume in the state until the deadline passes for Proposition 8 sponsors to appeal to a larger panel of the 9th Circuit. If such an appeal is filed, gay marriages will remain on hold until it's resolved.

I am back! Make it home from the land of dirt and dust, saguaro and prickly pear, blue skies and cold nights, without incident or accident!

The flight home (via JetBlue) was very nice - we took off on time from Phoenix (number one on the runway) and landed about a half-hour ahead of schedule (thank you, jetstream). Unlike my travelling companion, V, who went home on Saturday via US Airways (or as I like to call them US Scareways). Her flight was over two hours late taking off and required a return to the gate for check engine light.

Anyway, I had parked my car at V's house (who lives closer to the airport) and took a cab back there. The cabbie was listening to the Superbowl and a commerical came on for the US Postal Service. The guy talks about saving a few pennies by using carrier pigeons.

And guess what?

He starts talking about the Battle of the Argonne, and how this one carrier pigeon got through and saved the lives of 200 American soldiers after being shot.

And I say, "Yes, yes, you're talking about Cher Amie and the Lost Battalion."

He was very impressed.

Hi there!

I am having a lovely time, but miss all of you very much.

I miss my writing, too. I think this is the longest stretch I've gone without writing since I started - about two years ago. Stories are percolating in my head - so when I get back, I do hope that they just spill out of me.

Hope you are all behaving yourselves. Or not, as the case may be.

Well, I knew it could happen, I even mentioned the possibility when I posted that I was going on vacation.

I missed White Collar last night. For the first time in two years, I missed an episode as it aired. I feel bereft. Not just for missing out on the wonderfulness of the show, but for not being able to connect with my friends and fellow fans here on my journal after the airing.

But the truth is, I was just too exhausted to stay awake for the midnight airing and I probably won't get to watch it until Sunday or Monday night, when I get home.

I am having a lovely, lovely time - got everything on my shopping list, so the rest of the trip is just gravy. The weather is GORGEOUS - 77 degrees, sunny, dry. The hotel is pleasant - a Starbucks and a Trader Joe's in walking distance.

I hope to be able to do the Dish tomorrow night - or at least post something where you wonderful people can park your thinky and not so thinky thoughts. I know that WC will air at 8 pm Arizona time ... and I am very much looking forward to this episode. Here's to hoping for more bromantic moments!

It goes without say that nothing would have gotten written without the cheerleading from my terrific crit partner, [livejournal.com profile] jrosemary and my enabler-in-chief, [livejournal.com profile] rabidchild67 who prodded, nudged, argued and advised – with patience and fortitude. Additional thanks to [livejournal.com profile] tj_teejay for help with some German words and phrases.

The title of this story comes from the Oysterband song, Only When You Call, from their album Deep Dark Ocean. I picked the title from a scrap of lyrics floating around in my head, and it was not until this morning that I paired it up with the album – a serendipitous coincidence.

Love is as rich as the sea
With strange things swimming inside it
And people can drown and you're going to go down
If your head and your heart are divided

Day 15

In your own space, share a favorite memory about fandom: the first time you got into fandom, the last time a fanwork touched your heart, crazy times with fellow fans (whether on-line or off-line), a lovely comment you’ve received or have left for someone. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

There is a lovely, lovely way to end the entire challenge. There is also a charming synchronicity about this final entry and my life at the very moment that it was posted.

On January 15, I was in a hotel room with six other wonderful women. Five of us had all met through White Collar fandom (in some way or another), and the sixth was a writer in the Grimm fandom. What was so wonderful about this meetup, and the one the year before, was that we had only known each other as user names, creators of admirable fanworks, but we were now RL friends.

Real people, wonderful people, not just a collection of stories and talents.

For a person who has had difficulty making and keeping friends, fandom has given me something precious and worthy.

Day 14

In your own space, ask for help. Need a beta? Always wanted to learn how to make a vid? a fanmix? icons? Maybe you’d want to have someone cheering for you while you work on an upcoming big bang or fannish bingo? Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Anyone want to teach me how to vid? I’ve got Macs, and of course iMovie and a bunch of other video programs. I have been wanting a fanvid of Peter Burke set to “What A Man” for almost as long as I’ve been in the White Collar fandom. I’ve asked for it a few times, and no one will give it to me – which I completely understand.

Vidding is hard work.

So, if I want it, I’ll need to learn how to do it myself.

Teach me, please?

233,280 minutes
13,996,800 seconds

Come on, folks … that’s a little much, wouldn’t you say?

My dearest and bestest friend, [livejournal.com profile] jrosemary is on pins and needles about the possible demise of Matthew Keller, Kidnapper of Burkes extraordinaire. I’m terrified that the bromance is completely and irreparably broken, a fear shared by many a fangirl.

For the first time, I’ve kept myself as spoiler free as possible - which has been difficult, given the sheer amount of clips and script pages and photos that have been released, not to mention the spoilery reviews and even what Tatt DeBomer has been talking about. And TBH, I am almost afraid to watch - because what I have seen, doesn’t make me happy.

I watch, not for the plot - but for the relationship between Peter and Neal - and that has taken such a beating, I am terrified that it will never recover.

We’re almost there, folks…

Remember - the Dish is a wank-free zone, keep it happy, keep it fun. Bashing is verboten.

Spoilers, naturally, are under the cut )

Was travelling this weekend via the Delta Shuttle, where you can get free magazines. When I got back last night, I noticed the following:

Knowing that there are quite a few NCIS fans on my flist, I picked up as many copies as I could manage (I think seven). They all have a little sticker on the front that says "Courtesy of Delta Airlines" which can easily be removed with a hairdryer (which melts the glue).

If anyone wants one, let me know in the comments. I'll be happy to send - just pay for postage.

Spoilers: None

A/N: Beta by [livejournal.com profile] ivorysilk. All mistakes are mine and mine alone. Written for [livejournal.com profile] gnomi as both birthday fic and an extra day for my Fic-Can-Ukah meme, for the prompt “He Asked You To Dance.” This also fills the “Secret Admirers” square on my Angst Bingo card.

He should have been happier. It was always that way – he got what he wanted, but he was never satisfied. )

In sort of a weird, sad panda place right now and I'm just in need of some love and attention and positive interaction.

So I'm ganking this meme from my friend [livejournal.com profile] ladygray99

Ask me my Top Five Whatevers.

Can be fannish or not, literary or otherwise. Any top fives. Doesn't matter what, really! Fandoms, ice cream flavors, cartoon moments, women/men in my fandoms, OTPs, ideal holiday destinations, goals for the future, celebrity crushes, books I wish would be made into movies, love songs, anything else you might want to know. And I will answer them all in comments/in a new entry.

Day 13

In your own space, share a favorite piece of original canon (a TV episode, a song, a favourite interview, a book) and explain why you love it so much.

This one is going to be a little different - I’m not reccing anything White Collar or even anything fannish. I’m reccing my favorite book from my early teenage years, a book (or actually trilogy) that continues to enrapture me 30+ years on.

I first read Patricia McKillip’s “Riddle Master of Hed” when I was in 7th grade. I remember carrying it with me in my brand new pocketbook - it was newly published and I savored every word. Then disaster struck, and I lost it! My mother, who was indulgent up to a point, refused to forward the next two weeks’ allowance so I could replace it. I remember not pouting, just calling all of the nearby libraries to see if they had a copy. And then three days after, she surprised me with a brand new copy, which I had to print my name in.

I still have that copy, with my name and homeroom number (210). And I have my originally purchased copies of the two sequels - Heir of Sea and Fire and Harpist in the Wind. I’ve read them so many times, the covers have all but fallen off. About a decade ago, I bought “Riddle-Master” which is a single volume version of the three books, and I take it out once a year to reread. I try not to do it too often, as I don’t want to lose the magic.

What do I love about this trilogy? It is basically the anti-Tolkien, written at a time when all good fantasy needed to replicate Middle Earth. The world-building works not on the deeds of sorcerers and mages, but on a magic imbued in the very fabric of the land itself. It is as much a story about politics and alliances as it is about swords and magic. And the evil that haunts the books is not the violent ugliness of trolls and orcs, it is ancient and powerful and above all, subtle.

I have, for many years, read and loved Patricia McKillip’s other works - they are all excellent, lyrical and beautifully written fantasies of the highest order - but as flawed as these books are (there are some definite rough spots), the still remain my favorites.

Day 12

In your own space, rec at least three fanworks that you think would make a good intro into XYZ fandom. Rec a fandom overview, a introductory picspam, stories that define and shape the fandom. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Five Things That Jones and Cruz Learned About Neal Caffrey by [livejournal.com profile] hoosierbitch. Written during the second half of Season One of White Collar, this gives depth to two ancillary characters that at the time, we hadn’t gotten much information on. And of course, there is hurt!Neal and sad!Neal and protective!Peter.

Contractual Obligations - A Love Story in Three Traffic Lights by Shaenie. This was my first introduction to Peter, Elizabeth and Neal becoming “Peter/Elizabeth/Neal” and it’s also SMOKIN’ hot.

Romanology By The Tenth Muse. It’s a serious A/U, and it’s slave fic, but it’s beautifully written and a story I go back to over and over again. And it’s hot, too.

In your own space, ask for recs. Something as simple as "I like XYZ (where XYZ is a kink, a pairing, a trope, etc) - please rec me some." Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Okay - please rec me! I want to read outside my comfort zone, so I'm looking for recs for:

Torchwood (Jake/Gwen more than Jack/Ianto)
Doctor Who (Nine intrigues me more than Eleven)
Star Trek IXXI (All arrangements are welcome)
Harry Potter (Rare pairings preferred, anything with Sirius Black preferred)
The Curse of Chalion (or the whole series)
Sherlock Holmes (Granada or BBC, not the movie'verse, pls)

And anything else wonderful in any other fandom that you think I'd enjoy. Or something by your favorite writer or something unusual and unique that pushed YOUR buttons.

Day 10

In your own space, talk about a creator. Show us why you think they are amazing. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Since I’ve been in fandom, I’ve encountered many wonderful creators, people whose works I’ve admired, whose talents I want to steal, who constantly amaze me with their ability to produce story after story in a variety of fandoms. Basically, people who have amazing talent.

And sometimes, those talents get packaged in a really nice person, someone I am proud to call “friend.”

I am speaking of [livejournal.com profile] rabidchild67, who burst into the White Collar fandom a year ago August with her stellar and very hot fic, The Trial. I should note, I first read this on my iPad when I was coming back from a client appointment and sitting in the front seat of my boss’ BMW. Nothing like silently squirming all the way up the Garden State Parkway.

Why you should read RC’s work )

Fandom: White Collar
Rating: PG
Characters/Pairings: Neal Caffrey
Spoilers: None
Warnings/Enticements/Triggers: Extreme Angst

A/N: This story was written for the Fandom Snowflake Challenge Day 9 – Create a Fanwork, and I used the prompt An immobile time not marked on clocks from Charles Baudelaire’s The Parisian Prowler. It didn’t help that I was listening to Nina Simone singing “Who Knows Where the Time Goes” when I started writing this.
